Lost phone scam alert… any tips?

I lost my phone in Cancun and had a feeling it was gone for good, especially after Find My iPhone showed it at a location I wasn’t at. Now it’s not showing on Find My anymore, but I keep getting texts asking me to log in to iCloud. I haven’t clicked them, but I’m sure it’s a scam to steal my account info.

That ‘tappleid.com’ scam is not the brightest, but it’s still sneaky :joy:. They’re probably trying to get your login info so they can take it off Find My and either use or sell it.

They’re definitely trying to get your password to remove it from Find My. Best thing to do is lock the phone in lost mode and keep pinging it non-stop.

Yeah, I’ve been doing that. Playing the sound constantly just in case they hear it lol.

“Retained at an App Store”—lol, these scammers.

Haha, yeah, that one cracked me up too.

Sorry about your phone, but yeah, those messages are totally fake.

Try replying with something like ‘I can’t figure it out,’ and bait them by saying ‘I tried this link, can you help?’ See if you can get them to fall for it .

It’s a scam for sure. They want to trick you into removing it from Find My so they can wipe and sell it.

Dang, I just downloaded your phone from the App Store it was supposedly ‘retained at’.

Lol these scammers need to start using GPT to sound smarter :joy:.

Where’s that copy-pasta about what happened in 1989 and Winnie the Pooh that OP should send back to them?!

How did they even get your number?

I’ve been wondering that too since I canceled my SIM card.

They probably swapped your ‘inactive’ SIM into another phone. That way, they can see the number it was activated with.
