Why is iPhone 16 RAM benchmark so low compared to older models?

Classic Apple move. They might’ve cut corners somewhere, hoping nobody would notice.

@Orin
Thanks! These are all solid points and definitely make sense. I appreciate the detailed response.

Did you wait a few days after setting up your phone before benchmarking? iPhones often run background tasks at first, which can skew results. Also, Apple might reserve some RAM for system processes.

@Quincy
Yeah, I know about indexing and all that. I’ve had the phone for a month, so it should be settled by now. I even turned off Apple Intelligence thinking it might help, but the scores stayed the same.

@Bliss
Who knows, maybe the updated Siri or animations are using more RAM. But honestly, Apple usually ensures their devices perform well overall. Hopefully, future updates will address this.

@Orin
Good effort, though some of this might not be accurate. Still, it’s helpful!

@Orin
Honestly, some of this seems like guesses, not engineering facts.

Exactly! If you don’t know the answer, just don’t comment.

I get what you’re saying, but the real issue is blindly defending a company instead of addressing legitimate concerns.

@Jesse
I’m not defending Apple, just saying people should stay quiet if they don’t know.

Fair enough, and I didn’t mean to imply you were defending them. Miscommunication on my part.

I think the RAM benchmarks might not tell the full story. From what I see, the 16 has better sequential and random access speeds, which could mean Apple optimized for parallel processing. This might explain the numbers, and it could be better for tasks like AI. Battery life considerations might also play a role.

@Del
Thanks for this explanation. It’s reassuring to hear there’s likely a reason behind these numbers. Hopefully, it’s just a matter of how the benchmarks measure performance.

Just download more RAM, lol.

:joy: Good one!

Are both phones on the same iOS version? Were all apps closed? Did you check if AI features were enabled? Benchmarks can vary depending on these factors. Also, differences in battery charge levels or silicon performance could affect results.

@Dacey
These benchmarks aren’t just mine; they’re averages from many users. My personal score for RAM was 240,000, which still feels off.

The RAM in the A18 chip is stacked on top of the CPU, which might create heat and power constraints. This could explain why the performance isn’t as expected.

The differences might be due to iOS updates. Tech improvements are getting smaller, so performance gains aren’t always noticeable.
