Received my new iPhone 16 Pro Max today. Took it out of the box and began the transfer from my iPhone 15 Pro Max to it. Approximately 3-4 minutes into the transfer, the screen started blinking from black to the Lock Screen back and forth quickly. It wouldn’t let me turn it off. It got so hot I couldn’t hold it and had to take it outside out of fear it might explode or catch fire. BE CAREFUL!
Lmao, people really act like they wouldn’t care if something like this happened.
People are acting like it’s simple to just return it. Not everyone can be without a phone for days at a time or can drop everything and just go to Apple.

For real, my closest Apple Store is 2.5 hours away. I hate when something goes wrong.
@Emory
I don’t have one in my country.
Damn, that’s even more of a struggle.
It’s not ideal. I’d have to send it to Australia.

The OP has a 15 Pro. What’s the big deal returning the broken one? Couple of days. Sheesh.
@Hartley
Yeah, but I was told I can’t use an eSIM in an old phone if the new one breaks, so they probably can’t use the iPhone 15. And I don’t know about OP, but I have small kids who go to a babysitter. I can’t go a couple of days without a phone in case there’s an emergency. Also, I make a commute to work, so it makes me uncomfortable to drive without a phone, especially with snow.
People saying ‘just return it’ haven’t factored in that if this is on an EIP, returning it will void any promotional credits.
Before you go through the hassle of trying to return or exchange it, try to restore it on a computer. That could very well be a bad install of the OS.
If you didn’t get a warning that it was too hot, it was not dangerously hot. It might seem like a danger if you aren’t expecting it, and that’s fair.
Was your 15 Pro Max also affected during this process, or only your new 16 Pro Max?

No, just the new 16, BUT it took hours on the phone for Verizon to turn my 15 back on.
@Marlow
Wow. This shouldn’t ever happen.
Right now, is everything fully resolved?
Hey, I’ve had this problem as well. It’s easily fixed by booting the phone up in factory mode and plugging it into a PC or Mac for a reset.
Shit happens. Looks like it was your turn today. Return it and move on with life.
