If you have an iPhone 15 Pro (not the Pro Max), I need your help!
I run a small business that uses the telephoto lens on iPhones to capture photos through other optics, such as spotting scopes and binoculars. I need to figure out exactly where the telephoto lens is located on the iPhone 15 Pro.
All of the diagrams I’ve found online show the zoom lens at the top of the camera arrangement (see picture). However, some customers have reported that their telephoto camera is on the right, in the middle (between the flashlight and LiDAR sensor).
If you have an iPhone 15 Pro, can you tell me where your zoom lens is? And does it provide a 3x zoom or a 5x zoom?
It’s 3x optical zoom. Anything past that is digital.
In the Portrait orientation, the Telephoto camera is in the same spot on all iPhone 15 Pro models: when looking at the 3 cameras, it’s the one on the right. The one on the top is the Ultra Wide camera and so the one on the bottom is the Main camera.
In Landscape, it depends: if the volume buttons are on top, then in Landscape the Telephoto camera is on top.

Confirmed by switching to 3x and putting my finger over each lens. In vertical position, the telephoto lens is the top.
I am surprised. I know these cameras were arranged intentionally with spatial computing in mind; for example for the few who have the Vision Pro the iPhone 15 pro series (and up — all iPhone 16 models) have the wide angle lens and ultra wide angle lens arranged vertically which would imply the top camera and the bottom camera are the wide and ultra-wide and therefore the telephoto camera would have to be the camera on the right (if looking at the back of the iPhone camera array ).
I am not 1,000% sure. I’m going by what I read back when the iPhone 15 Pro series launched and the Vision Pro launch was imminent.
If I am wrong, I apologize
