Here are a few iPhone apps I’m actually paying for — I’d love to hear about your favorites!

As a software developer, I love discovering new apps and don’t mind paying for ones that truly stand out (After all, paying is the least we can do to show appreciation for developers’ hard work, right?)

Here are a few apps I’ve actually paid for:

Bevel (All-in-one health app): Initially found Bevel on Reddit (back when it was called Superset). As an Apple Watch user, I appreciate its WHOOP-like metrics (e.g., HRV, stress levels). Despite Apple adding similar features recently, I’ve stuck with Bevel for its clean UI and subscribed to unlock all data.

Lifestack (Health calendar app): Another Reddit find! Lifestack integrates fitness tracker data (e.g., Apple Watch) with your calendar to show peak energy times and optimize schedules. No free plan available, but I subscribed to the yearly plan hoping UX improves over time.

Rainbow Weather (Accurate weather app): Discovered on Product Hunt (Golden Kitty winner). It’s more accurate than iOS’s native weather app, so I subscribed to the pro plan and even recommended it to my partner.

Superlist (All-in-one to-do list): Found on Product Hunt. It consolidates to-do lists from Todoist, ClickUp, Trello, and Notion. Subscribed for Slack integration, which has been a game-changer.

Slate (Magical keyboard app): Joined the beta a few months ago (can’t recall where I found it). Not a fan of GPT-based predictions but love its UI for pasting stored links. Subscribed to the pro plan during beta, and now it’s publicly released.

Reddit has been my go-to for discovering apps. If you’ve got recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

(P.S. I posted this on another subreddit but wanted to share here for more suggestions.)

You just made me realize I don’t pay for apps anymore. Used to buy apps before subscriptions were a thing, but now I only subscribe to services like Netflix.

I subscribe to Hello Weather for its clean design and ability to choose from multiple weather sources. The free version is good, but the subscription unlocks additional info and data sources like AccuWeather and The Weather Channel.

I pay for:

  • Overcast Premium: My favorite podcast app.
  • Carrot Weather: Customizable interface and snarky commentary make it fun.
  • Due: My go-to reminder app with a great nag mode to ensure I complete tasks.

@Zola
Due is the best! Even without a subscription, it’s great. I still pay the small yearly fee because I use it so much.

@Zola
Thanks for the recs! I’ve heard a lot about Carrot Weather but didn’t know about Overcast or Due.

I don’t pay for iPhone-specific apps. My subscriptions include Apple One, ChatGPT, and streaming services like Discovery+, HBO Max, and Peacock. I pay for Office365 outside the App Store.

Forgot to list ChatGPT!

Moises.ai: If you play an instrument, this app lets you isolate or mute tracks from songs for practice or as backing tracks. It’s a must-have for musicians.

Some of my favorites:

  • Goodnotes: Great for note-taking with Apple Pencil.
  • Wipr 2: An excellent ad blocker that just works.
  • AutoSleep: Upgrades Apple’s sleep tracking.
  • RadarScope: High-powered weather tracking used by meteorologists.
  • Paprika: The best app for saving recipes and creating shopping lists.

@Teagan
Yes to Goodnotes!

Anyone here use MyRadar and tried Rainbow Weather? Which do you recommend? I still miss Dark Sky and don’t love MyRadar’s UI.

The only app I pay for is SleepWatch.

Let me guess…you’re American!
