Autoplay for videos and not having Favorites at hand is really frustrating.
You can turn off autoplay motion in Photos settings, which will stop videos from playing automatically.

@Whitney
I couldn’t find an option to avoid autoplay. And yes, you can reorganize, but only as ‘collections’ rather than albums. Collections are like tagged items treated as a slideshow, meaning it immediately tries to start a slideshow or video with those pictures. I just want easy access to Favorites without presentations or videos. I’d like the option to choose between modes.
@Shan
Try untoggling ‘autoplay motion’ in settings. That will stop videos from playing.

But I agree with you! I’m not in love with this version of Photos.
One of the main reasons I haven’t upgraded my iPhone 13 to iOS 18 yet. I don’t like the new Photos app layout.
The new design isn’t for me either. I sync folders of photos from my cameras so I can view and share them. Now they get mixed in with my phone photos, which is messy. I only want them in folders I create, like in iOS 17.
On top of being mixed with iPhone photos, the synced folders are jumbled instead of ordered by filename as on my Mac. Before, it was in the correct order, but now it randomly changes the order.
I’ve started using a synced photos folder in the Files app, which maintains my order, so I might stop syncing external pics to Photos.
I don’t understand these posts. I see my camera roll on iOS 18. It’s just not called ‘Camera Roll,’ but it functions the same.
